Back to School!

Taylor is officially done with her first week back to school. She didn’t have any problems with the transition from being home all the time, to getting up and going to school. (Sometimes she has a hard time with change and transitions.) I think the fact that she attended school until early August helped with that.
I am really excited to have her back in school (not just because I get a little break). She has been making so much progress and she fits in so well. Not that I’ve had any trouble with her not fitting in, it’s just really hard seeing her around “normal” children. That’s when I really see how different she is. We don’t see her as having a disability, we see her as Taylor, our little Nu-pie (long story on the nickname). At least in her school environment she’s around other children and can interact with them and nobody thinks she’s strange.
One of my biggest worries for her is how she’ll fit into a public school setting. The whole purpose of the school she’s in now is to ready her for public school. Luckily for us, Schoolcraft Schools has an in-school autism program that runs K-12. I don’t know too much about it now, but I’m sure I will once Taylor’s ready for it. It will be here before we know it!

I didn’t know that Schoolcraft had that program – that is great!
